Dr. Coca is actively involved in clinical and translational research that focuses on using biomarkers to improve risk-stratification for outcomes in acute and chronic kidney disease. The development of prognostic and predictive biomarkers may aide future clinical trials, by serving as an enrichment strategy for enrollment, and may also serve as outcomes for early phase trials of novel interventions. He has leveraged existing cohorts with banked blood and urine samples, including the ACCORD, VA NEPHRON-D, CANVAS, and DAPA-CKD clinical trials, as well as the Mount Sinai BioMe Biobank and the UPenn Medicine Biobank to explore the prognostic, discriminative, and additional value of biomarkers in AKI and CKD. He has been an active investigator in several large NIH consortia, including the TRIBE-AKI, ASSESS-AKI, CKD Biocon, and Kidney Precision Medicine Project (KPMP). He plans to continue exploring these parameters in other large cohorts and then to design innovative trials employing biomarkers for facilitated enrollment and for better determination of efficacy of existing or new agents.

New Insights into the Diagnosis and Treatment of AKI in Patients with ADHF

Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology companies, and other outside entities to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs. In order to promote an ethical and transparent environment for conducting research, providing clinical care and teaching, Mount Sinai requires that salaried faculty inform the School of their outside financial relationships.

Dr. Coca has not yet completed reporting of Industry relationships.

Mount Sinai's faculty policies relating to faculty collaboration with industry are posted on our website. Patients may wish to ask their physician about the activities they perform for companies.
