Dr. Chan has a clinical interest in Chiari Malformations, syringomyelia, and spinal deformity. He is currently working with the Department of Orthopedics on Technical Methods to improve the placement of spinal instrumentation in the correction of spinal deformities. Recent work with Dr. Baron Lonner focused on "The Transverse Process Trajectory - A New Technique for Thoracic Pedicle Screw Placement in the Deformed Spine."
